Fall is in full swing and that has many of us spending more time indoors, and perhaps taking stock of the beauty products that we use. Anytime you do this, you need to re-evaluate which products are still working for you. Our skin is always changing so we have to stay on top of what products we love, which ones we might try again, and what new products we want to try. I tend to do this monthly, so I can then share my current top 5 favourite beauty products here with you.
My 5 current favourites are a mix of products: they can be a newly launched product, one I’m trying for the first time, one I use all the time, or a product in my regular rotation but I haven’t shown enough appreciation for – like those unsung heroes in your makeup case. You know the ones that are always there when we need them.
It takes all kinds of products to create a great beauty and skincare collection. You need the unsung heroes just as much as the big flashy new stars to have you looking your best. This list of 5 of my current favourite beauty products is a real mix of products – long-term loves, unsung heroes, and new finds.

I found another way to celebrate my love of all things pumpkin. Last month, we had Hooker Lips Luxury Lip Balm in Pumpkin Spice and now we have a pumpkin face mask. It doesn’t have a strong pumpkin spice scent, but it does give you a warm fall feeling. This isn’t radically different from other face masks, but it is deeply hydrating. Also, there is enough excess product on the accompanying sheet (that helps to hold the folded mask) that you can rub it into your neck and décolletage. Remember to keep these areas well hydrated, as well. It is important to moisturize/hydrate your neck and chest as they show early signs of ageing.
Doing any kind of face mask is a form of self-care. It is very hard to do anything else while you have a face mask on; so, it forces you to stop. Those 15 minutes of stillness and calm do more for you than just hydrate your face. So, the next time you’re feeling overwhelmed, or it’s raining, and you just need to take a nice break, put on one of these Sephora collection face masks. Not only will you thank me, but your skin will also be grateful.
Philosophy contends that this product “leads to monumental renewal;” which is a big promise. Does it live up to the hype? It is a really good exfoliator. This product is gentle, yet it will scrub off the layer of dead skin and debris that you want to get rid of to renew your skin. This is a mild alternative to other exfoliators, so you can use it a few times a week. We are big fans of Philosophy face wash, as we previously featured their Purity Made Simple Face Wash, and this is just another great product to add to your collection.
This has been my favourite angled eyebrow brush forever. I clean it religiously (with the tips from the ultimate brush cleaning guide) and keep it in great shape. I recently misplaced this brush, and I was reminded how special it is as its replacement was just not the same and my eyebrows suffered. This professional-quality MAC “ultra-flat, angled brush” might truly be the greatest eyebrow brush ever. The “firm synthetic fibres that provide great control and precision” allow me to do my eyebrows quickly, and precisely how I like them, every time. Being able to rely on good tools is important when you are short on time. Can I get a similar look with another eyebrow brush? Of course; however, I find it takes longer, and might not be exactly the same.
This was one of the products we highlighted under the Lily Herbceuticals section of 5 of our favourite beauty brands from The Shopping Channel. It is a great toner, and it has a lovely scent that is not overly strong, nor is it astringent. This is a toner with an almost serum-like consistency. Also, it helps better the texture of your skin, gets rid of any dullness and helps with redness. The toner goes on very well, and it really gives your skin a lovely pick me up.
In the first instalment of this series in September 2020, I casually mentioned the Clinique Lash Building Primer, when writing about my favourite High Impact Extreme Volume Mascara. This is a product that deserves to be highlighted on its own. As someone with sensitive skin and eyes, I have issues with some mascaras (check out 5 reasons to ditch your mascara) but I still want to be able to add drama and impact to my lashes. Not all of us are comfortable wearing a strip or two of false eyelashes, during the day, so how do you add some drama to your look? Lash primer. By putting this primer on first (before your favourite mascara), your lashes not only look fuller and more defined; but they grab on to the mascara much better. If you have ever had your mascara flake off onto your cheeks, you need to use this product. An added bonus is that the primer moisturizes and conditions your lashes too. What’s not to love about a product that helps care for your lashes while giving them the look you want?
