The Best Face Highlighters

by Elyse V

Highlighter has become an essential part of makeup routines. This is especially true during the pandemic. Weather you’re trying to quickly get Zoom ready or have your makeup standout above your face mask, highlighter has become an easy go-to problem-solver. So, today we are going to feature the best face highlighters regardless if you prefer cream or powder.

You don’t have to go full-face contour to use a highlighter. Some may find the act of sculpting their face to emphasize some parts and downplay others, outside their comfort zone. Or overkill for the occasion. However, everyone can put a little highlighter on their cheek bone and over their brow bone. This helps to make you look more awake, your skin look dewy, and make your cheekbones pop. So let’s get to it.

The Best Face Highlighters

Anastasia Beverly Hills Sun Dipped Glow Kit®:

This Anastasia Beverly Hills quad of highlighters, offers something for everyone. These highlighters are extremely blendable and buildable. You can easily make these highlighters as intense as you want. The highlights also work well together so you can mix them to get a more bronzed look or just a simple sweep of highlight. The Sun Dipped Glow Kit is great to wear on your eyes (as part of a dewy, no makeup look), as a traditional highlighter, or to give you body glow for a special occasion. A little highlight on your collar bone can make them stand out and make you look like you have more of a sun kissed glow, than you really have, in the summer.

KKW Highlighters:

We covered the KKW highlighters, in our KKW contour palette review. Kim Kardashian makes both a cream and powder highlighter. Her sets come with one that has more glitter in it and one that is less reflective. The powders are great for everyday wear, or for building. They are also very easy to blend, so if blending isn’t your strong suit you will enjoy the powder. If you aren’t afraid of taking your time and blending out a look, or want extra drama to your highlight, try the dream stick. Cream highlighters are generally better for maturing or dryer skin.

MAC Cream Colour Base:

MAC’s cream colour base is sheer, but gives you a little colour and a dewy finish. It is a very reflective highlight that you can blend easily with a beauty blender or your fingers. It also is long wearing and gives you that perfect healthy, dewy look. You can build this product for a more intense look or blend it out to downplay the effect for daytime. It’s a versatile product that can be used on your eyes, cheeks or even your lips. It comes in a colour range that includes pink, silver, copper, gold, peach, and silver shimmers – all sold separately.

A great tip for a more impactful highlight, is to use a powder highlighter as a base and then tap a cream on top to intensify the look. Also, when rocking a more natural or “no makeup” makeup look, put a little of your highlighter under your brow bone to make the highlighter on your cheek bone and the side of your brow bone seem more natural. You can also add a little down the centre of your nose to make your nose appear thinner.

Highlighter is always a must when finishing a look. It instantly refreshes and gives you a glow like no other single product. That’s why we figured face highlighters were more than deserving of a little love.

What do you think of these highlighters? Is the thought of using highlighters, still not appealing to you? For those who are using highlighters, are there any other brands that you think we should try? What are your favourites? Let us know what you think by commenting below.
